The CompTIA Security+ certification is vendor-neutral, internationally recognized, and is included in the approved list of certifications to meet DoD Directive 8570.1 requirements. This accreditation also signifies a demonstrated proficiency in system security management, network infrastructure establishment, access control configuration, cryptography, and organizational defense measures. Essentially, this certification identifies knowledgeable professionals in the growing field of computer security.
The CompTIA Security+ is the first security certification you should earn. It establishes the core knowledge required of any cybersecurity role and provides a springboard to intermediate-level cybersecurity jobs. In addition, security+ incorporates best practices in hands-on troubleshooting, ensuring candidates have practical security problem-solving skills required to:
Assess the security posture of an enterprise environment and recommend and implement appropriate security solutions
Monitor and secure hybrid environments, including cloud, mobile, and IoT
Operate with an awareness of applicable laws and policies, including principles of governance, risk, and compliance
Identify, analyze, and respond to security events and incidents
Security+ is compliant with ISO 17024 standards and approved by the US DoD to meet directive 8140/8570.01-M requirements. Regulators and governments rely on ANSI accreditation because it provides confidence and trust in the outputs of an accredited program.
For those already in the IT security field or looking to enhance their career, there is a range of certifications and training options available for those who want to learn about IT security and demonstrate that knowledge to current and potential employers. However, many more advanced IT security certifications require a level of expertise, experience, and commitment that might be outside of the range of many newer IT professionals. Therefore, this certification might be your best choice.
